Villa Borg

The Roman Villa Borg is a reconstructed Roman Villa Rustica (agricultural villa) located near the villages of Borg and Oberleuken in Germany just south of Luxembourg. The villa is located near what was in Roman times a major road connecting Metz with Trier. Near the villa, remains of a Roman rest stop and inn for travellers has also been found. Remains of the villa were first discovered at the end of the 19th century and the site has been extensively excavated since the 1980s. Rather than covering the excavated areas with a protective superstructure, as is commonly done to protect the findings, it was decided in the early 2000s to fully reconstruct the villa. The site is a popular tourist attraction with some 50,000 visitors per year. Particularly popular are the "Roman Days" (Römertage) held annually in early August, providing shows of Roman-era historical reenactment.
